Why natural care products are better, without being too fancy about it
On average you use 10 care products per day. Each product contains an average of 20 ingredients and most of them are harmful to your body.
I will briefly explain why, which harmful substances these are and the better (and nicer) solution with natural care products.
Harmful substances in your cream, shampoo and deodorants include petroleum, papaya, SLS/SLES, microplastics and silicones.
Your skin is an organ and through the skin some of those chemicals escape through the skin layers into your bloodstream where they affect your other organs, such as your liver which has to clean up the chemicals and your brain.
It's only tiny amounts all the time, but with those 10 products every day, it really adds up.
When I read this myself, I became more aware of purchasing new care products. Which has led to me now starting my own product line.
My goal with Namashea is to make people aware of the choices in skin care.
I want to show that good products can also be very nice and that natural products are sometimes fortunately still really natural.
What's in what?
Care products and their harmful substances
Petroleum
Are you addicted to lip balm? You use lip balm to keep your lips soft. But after a short while, your lips are even drier?
Lip balm contains petroleum, a by-product of petroleum.
Vaseline and Purol for example are 100% pure petroleum jelly. It softens the lips just as intensely, but afterwards the lips are even drier and you keep on lubricating.
This is because you shield the skin and as a result the thin skin of the lips can no longer breathe and loses its own moisture regulating capacity.
Parabens
Most creams and deodorants contain parabens. On the product label, the ingredient ends with -paraben.
Parabens extend the shelf life of the product, but at the same time disrupt the hormone balance.
Therefore, taking a little bit of paraben 10 times a day is unwise, especially when your hormones are out of balance due to thyroid problems or premenopause (7 years before menopause, on average after the age of 43).
SLS/ SLES
The beautiful foam of your shampoo and shower gel is made for the SLS/SLES. The disadvantage at the same time is that it removes all the natural oil from your skin, which makes the skin very dry afterwards.
Microplastics
In shampoo, scrub, toothpaste, deodorant and in sunscreen, for example, there are tiny pieces of plastic. It is in so many products that it is very difficult to really prevent it. But becoming aware is already a big step.
Silicone
Silicone is a liquid plastic found in foundation, serums and hair products.
It creates a layer that prevents the skin from breathing, making the skin and hair feel even drier.
Although it may seem nourished at first, after a few weeks you will notice that it becomes drier and you will be inclined to use more product for the same result.
How does a cream work:
A cream consists of water and oil. An emulsifier is needed to mix it, because water and oil do not mix.
After that a thickener is needed because without a thickener it is often too liquid.
Next, a preservative is needed to make the product last. Water alone attracts bacteria, as does an unprocessed oil.
Finally, a cream is enriched with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, allantoin or essential oil.
But what then?
If I have inspired you by this blog to buy your new care products on a natural basis, then look carefully at the label of the product.
The ingredients are listed in order of concentration. Don't be fooled by the term "natural" on the label. A product may carry this term if there are 1 or 2 natural products in the cream. The rest may still be chemical.
